Black Man Break Free of the Suckin,' Mutherfuckin' White Egg #5, 4x6 ft., Acrylic on Homasote, Dana C. Chandler, Jr., 1978.
This piece presents the idea that black artists and black people need to insist on their own agency and break from from the white egg of oppression to do "their own thing." Chandler chose the colors red, black, and green, the colors of black pride, to go inside red, white and blue, which represent white nationalism and oppression in America, "because our busting out would happen in America. We wouldn't need whiteness to carry us anymore." The word "mutherfuckin'' in the title represents the routine rape or sexual exploitation of black women by racist white men.
